Getting good Search Engine listings and hopefully receiving decent or even top listings is what we all hope for. That glorious moment in time when that is achieved it blows to find out that it could be snatched away. Some people target Websites in competing listings by flooding them with massive amounts of bad back-links and applying other possible negative search engine optimizations with the goal of their own site moving up the ranks.

We all know that nobody would ever do this in our Industry! And back to more honest topics, the below paragraph is pulled from the Forbes Article “The Saboteurs Of Search,” which conveniently mentions porn, for effect of course.

Scott says that he’s used Google bowling in the service of clients with travel Web sites and mobile phone sites, but he tries to avoid using the tactic frequently. It tests his ethical limits, he says, and its beneficial competitive effects don’t usually last long. Google bowling, he says, occurs most often in already disreputable parts of the Web that hawk porn and pharmaceuticals.

Now don’t freak out, your lost rankings probably is not due to this. There are many other possible reasons why a Website could have lost its rankings and this probably is not one of them. But if you have exhausted all other efforts to regain your one decent search listings then give this a look. I don’t think this would harm authority sites or any Website with strong listings, as Google and Yahoo should easily be able to spot odd trends on trusted Websites.

Yeah, that means the rest of us have to watch our own growth patterns a little closer and be mindful of the devious tricks others will play to make that extra dime.
