Adding Drop Caps to your Wordpress Blog not only makes it looks nice; it also helps to draw your reader’s eyes to your starting paragraphs of your blog. As you can see the “A” starting this paragraph does help the paragraph stand out. Some reports say as much as a 45% increase in readership just because of Drop Caps. I’m sure you have noticed that newspapers & magazines have been using them for years. They do work, and adding them to your blog is easier than you think.
Printfhelloword.com offers a very easy to use plug-in for Wordpress. This is a two part plug-in, upload the bigfirstchar.php file to your plug-ins folder and add the theme style to your themes style.css file. A couple of tips: This plug-in adds an extra html paragraph tag to the start of your paragraph. To make the plug-in work you need to make sure you don’t start your paragraph with an html paragraph tag. Adding a picture, a start <P> tag, or a link will make the drop cap not work.
* Don’t start your html with a paragraph tag <P>.

Thanks for the comments on my drop cap plugin. You are quite correct that if you had a P tag at the beginning of your post it would fail.
However a link (A tag) works fine — which surprised me. The browsers render the first large character correctly as part of the hyperlink.
Images I didn’t try but presume will break.
