Link baiting is like masturbating, it’s good. It’s real good, but it isn’t as good as it ‘could’ be. Getting the real ‘original’ thing is much better and masturbating too much can be a bad thing, sometimes…

Once you have created a half decent Blog you can use a technique called Link Baiting to help create filler posts, create possible back links from other Blogs and maybe even get some extra traffic or better yet a post back about one of your Blogs Features.

Still not sure what Link Baiting is? Simply it’s when you create relevant anchor text within a paragraph/post, which is linked to a related article normally found on someone else’s site, ie: You blogged about another Bloggers post. The above linked words “Link Baiting” and this link to Wikipedia’s Article on Link Bait, is link bait.

Solid link bait is giving the blogged article a relevant keyword driven anchor text. Creating non-relevant anchor text is still link bait but it doesn’t pass through much relevant link love to the linked site.

Some say this could be the death of Blogs, exaggerated reports about link bait being a dying or dead trend is perfect!!! Here is why, other than the few random subjects - anytime you write an article that contains a few link baits then chances are the article isn’t an original, it’s someone else’s idea, thoughts, and theories with a twist. Much like this post.

Many Bloggers will blog about amazing, relevant, and interesting… things. These Webmasters give us great Webmaster Tools, examples, and links to other powerful and related articles that you may find interesting. This is how link baiting should be.

So in short, mass link baiting and hoax baiting sucks. It sucks for the reader and it can suck your SEO ranks right out from under you. Keep your linking out to strong, powerful, related subjects and inform your visitors of other posts or sites that you truly enjoy yourself.

The vast world of Link Bait goes well beyond links within a Blog post. It’s a world of Proper Post Titles, personal and viral marketing as well as the using Social Link Baiting to increase your overall baits.
