Airline Travel Info For Webmasters
With all the new travel regulations, increased security and more Webmaster shows, we find ourselves traveling worldwide without knowing what to fully expect from each airport. With many of us coming from large cities we always expect these incredibly long delays because they tell us to arrive two hours early.
In my experience since everything has happened, I have yet to NEED to arrive at an airport two hours early. I always arrive 2 hours early every time just to be safe, but then I find myself sipping my coffee and reading a book for over an hour.
On heavy travel weekends, holidays, special events, or international travel it is always important to show up early, but here are a few things to decrease your wait time and what to expect.
- Most airlines now offer online check-in. This is a great option to use because it allows you to skip the whole ticket process and with the self check-in kiosks, baggage is checked rather easily.
- If the line is short, and someone drops you off at the airport, you can check-in and drop your bags at curbside check-in. Don't forget a few bucks for a tip.
- Once inside you will have to put your bag through an x-ray machine. While this is not very different than what we use to have to do, you are now required in some airports to stay with your bag, show your baggage stub and then continue on.
- Security: there isn't much difference other than you are forced to take off your shoes - again.
I have been to LAX, Phoenix, Vegas, and many other large airports since the new changes, but I have yet to fly international. While international may vary, I would like everyone to realize that these guidelines DO NOT apply to international travel.
To see the suggested airport arrival time and other pertinent information you can visit my favorite airline's site: southwest.com and for the list of airports and their times, here is the direct link.
The big question for a Webmaster is which electronic devices are we allowed to take onto the plane. Currently, most electronics, including cameras and film, laptops, PDA's, cell phones, and DVD players can come with you on the plane.
Before you travel visit the tsa.gov website to get a current permitted and prohibited items list. The TSA website offers clear information on packaging rules for medications, special need devices, personal items and all the other goodies you want to bring with you.
Safe travels to everyone and all the webmasters heading to the upcoming shows, hope this will make your traveling experiences a little less painful.
